⟶ The Western Desert, Egypt

A landscape that looks like another planet — and a night sky to match.

Five hours west of Cairo, the Sahara breaks open. Wind-carved limestone mushrooms rise from orange dunes. Black volcanic hills meet pale sand. Springs bubble warm in the middle of nowhere. We've been running small-group safaris out here since 2012 — same jeeps, same guides, same fire under the same stars.

Black & White Desert

The classic camping safari from Cairo.

  • Cairo ↔ Bahariya Oasis return
  • 4x4 jeep safari with Bedouin driver
  • Black Desert, Crystal Mountain, Aqabat
  • Cold sulfur spring at El Hez
  • Camp dinner & breakfast under the stars

Day 1

Cairo → Bahariya → Black & White Desert

Leave Cairo at 7 am for the 5-hour drive to Bahariya Oasis. Lunch on arrival, then meet your 4x4. Explore the Black Desert, El Hez village and its cold spring, push on to Crystal Mountain and the Aqabat formations — one of the most striking corners of the White Desert. Continue to the Old White Desert (mushrooms & tents area) and the New White Desert. We find a sheltered spot, set camp, share dinner and sleep under a sky full of stars.

Day 2

Sunrise in the White Desert → Cairo

After breakfast we pick up anything missed the day before, drive back to Bahariya to swap into our road car, and return to Cairo.

Meet your guide

This is Yasser.
The desert is his backyard. Literally.

Born and raised in Bahariya Oasis, Yasser grew up between date palms and sand dunes — and he'll be the one leading you through this magical experience. GPS? He is the GPS.

⟶ Why travelers trust him

Knows every dune like the back of his hand.

While you're spotting your first mushroom rock, Yasser is already planning where you'll drink the best Bedouin tea of your life. He learned this desert the old way — on foot, by jeep, by starlight — long before it was on any map. Ask him anything: the name of a rock, the story of a spring, where the fennec foxes hide. He'll smile, pour you another tea, and tell you.

  • Born in Bahariya Oasis — the gateway to the White Desert
  • Raised between date palms and sand dunes
  • Knows the desert like the back of his hand
  • Unlimited smiles & Bedouin tea included
